Our Policies
This section brings together all Wayfinders policies in one place. Our policies are guided by our values and written using a trauma-informed and non-violent communication approach. They are designed to promote safety, clarity, and a strong sense of belonging for everyone in our learning community.
We recognise that choosing an alternative to mainstream education is an important decision, and transparency is essential. These policies are here to help families understand how we work, what we value, and how we ensure a safe and supportive environment for every child.
You may notice that some policies sound different from those found in more traditional settings. This is intentional and reflects our values and beliefs.
For example, we view behaviour as a form of communication and have therefore chosen to name our policy ‘Relational Policy’ rather than a ‘Behaviour Policy’. This reflects our focus on connection, understanding and support rather than punishment or compliance.
We also include a Play Policy, as we recognise play as a vital part of learning, emotional regulation, relationship-building and skill development. Play is not something children grow out of, but an important part of how they learn and thrive. Our approach ensures play is valued, purposeful and safely supported.
List of policies:
Confidentiality and Information Sharing Policy
Monitoring and Development Policy
Recruitment, Selection and Safer Recruitment Policy
Risk Assessments
We use thoughtful risk-benefit assessments for all activities to ensure children can safely access rich, real-world learning experiences. This helps us create the right balance between safety and opportunity, so young people can explore, take part, and build confidence in a supported way.
These documents can be requested at any time, and we will be uploading them to the website as we continue to develop the Wayfinders community, so families always have clear and transparent access to how we work.
